Hello Discovery Charter School Families!
My name is Christine Adams and I am currently the president of the DCS Governance Council. This has bee a really great year for DCS, and our council has done some great things I would like to share:
Spring Clean-up at Columbus Elementary School, Kiwanis Park, Washington Park
Helped plan Spring Open House for DCS students and upcoming Kindergarteners
Supported the renewal of the Charter program and attended the board meeting to show support
Oversee charter expenditures
The ‘Green Team’ has been busy with many recycling projects throughout the year, as well as partnered with the middle school for an activity night
Charter Council Members volunteered at the local Energy Fair
Communicated with teachers about the exciting projects our students are involved with in the classroom!
We are currently asking for parent volunteers to join any one of our committees:
Events Committee: Help plan after school events (such as a science night or guest presentations) that relate to Discovery Charter School.
Contact Tonya: tjbeal@wisc.edu
Green Team: Assist with school efforts to ‘go green!’ (help take in recyclables, assist with Green Team Activity night) contact Melody: melodytadych@gmail.com
Community Involvement: Help get the community involved with DCS related activities. Contact Kathy: sand.kathy@gmail.com
Garden/CES Grounds: Help keep our gardens looking good over summer break! (weeding & watering our DCS gardens/plants) contact Christine: r5adams@att.net
The council is also in need of a parent representative. The job of the parent representative is to give input and vote on items that pertain to the Discovery Charter School. Please fill out an application and e-mail it to me no later than June 9 if you are interested. We meet the third Tuesday of the month from 6:15-7:45 pm in the CES library.
Please e-mail the application to: r5adams@att.net
The council would like to send a huge THANKS to the great teachers, administration, and staff that make the Discovery Charter School a great place for our kids to learn! We had a successful year and look forward to another great year in the fall!
Thank you also to the current Council members for your time, dedication, and ideas that help strengthen DCS. Your ongoing support and involvement make a huge difference to our school and community!
