The music education program for the charter school students is a non-traditional music program. For our kindergarteners the specialist comes into the class and gives an abbreviated music lesson. These music lessons coincide with the homeroom teachers’ morning activity time where music and steady beat is emphasized. The students sing, dance, move, and play instruments in their classroom for this morning activity time. For the 1st and 2nd grade the students come into the music room to learn about music where their curriculum coincides with the charter theme of discovery. Here the emphasis is on a positive environment that includes singing, playing instruments, reading music, rhythm, listening to music, movement activities, and composition. The children receive musical training by individual and group activities that are based on learning and enjoyment.
